About preventionXpress

The preventionXpress (pXs) screen is an interactive digital health screening tool used in workplaces across Australia to improve the health and wellbeing of employees. More than 25,000 pXs workplace health checks have been conducted across the country.

Delivered onsite by trained healthcare workers, pXs incorporates a range of screening scales, assessments, and physical health checks, with a focus on chronic preventable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes.

Validated scales delivered through pXs include the DASS-21 and K10 for mental health assessment. The Epworth Sleepiness scale*, the Insomnia Index scale the Karolinska Sleepiness scale* and the Multivariable Apnea Prediction index* (MAPi; Yang. H et al 2018) to measure sleepiness and sleep disorders.

1. A registered nurse will test the following:

Blood pressure

Height & weight

Blood glucose levels

2. Input lifestyle data into a screening questionnaire screen on an iPad or mobile device

  • Chronic lung disease, alcohol and tobacco related harm
  • Cardiovascular disease (blood pressure and lifestyle)
  • Mental health concerns (DASS-21 & K10 scales)
  • Diabetes Type 2 (capillary finger prick test)
  • Sleeps disorders and fatigue
  • Preventative prostate/breast cancer health check prompts
  • Overweight and obesity (BMI check)

3. Clinical report and tailored summary report identifying risk and next steps

Low risk

Indicating a clean bill of health, backed up by some targeted health prevention information.

Moderate risk

Signalling that the patient may need to consult a doctor.

High risk

Alerting the patient to take action by contacting the appropriate local medical provider for the health issue identified.

Benefits of preventionXpress

Evaluations show preventionXpress has improved productivity and staff morale, reduced absenteeism, workplace injuries and staff turnover, and helped improve work culture and corporate image.

Employees are informed of their risk factors for a range of preventable diseases and provided with information to take action to reduce risk factors and maintain good health.

Employers are able to use de-personalised preventionXpress reports to help design their own workplace health programs and as a benchmark to measure progress on an annual basis. The report also compares results against national statistics for that workforce.

Capabilities

  • Our screening investigates a range of health factors including: cardiovascular disease, mental health (stress and depression), Diabetes Type 2; alcohol and tobacco related harm; sleepiness and fatigue, obstructive sleep apnoea, preventative prostate health check prompt and obesity.
  • Our onsite preventionXpress health professional records key measurements including height, weight, blood pressure and results from a prick test for diabetes.
  • On completion of the screening questionnaire participants receive a hard copy and mobile phone optimised report of their results with colour-coded signals with accompanying information about targeted prevention strategies, or some cases, an alert to take action and contact a local medical provider.
  • preventionXpress complies with the provisions of the Commonwealth Privacy Act. No personalised data is retained or made available to anyone other than the individual undertaking the health screen.
  • Key medical research partners include Andrology Australia, Beyond Blue and the Institute for Breathing and Sleep.
